Multi-factor authentication is an electronic authentication method in which a user is granted access to a website or application only after successfully presenting two or more pieces of evidence to an authentication mechanism.
In version 6.9.0.1 for the Medical FVCAD or version 5.7.16.25 for the Utility CAD, settings have been added for Multifactor Authentication. Administrators are able to dictate whether Two-Factor Authentication for user login will be optional, required, or only required for Non-LDAP users when accessing the CAD Client, Map, or Dashboard. If optional or unset is selected, the individual users have the option to enable MFA for their own account under the File menu.
Areas Impacted: User Login for FVCAD, FVMap, and FV Dashboard.
Name of Setting:
Require Two-Factor Authentication For Client Login
Require Two-Factor Authentication For Map Login
Require Two-Factor Authentication For Dashboard Login
All 3 new settings default to ‘unset’ which equates to ‘Optional’. The setting values are ‘Optional’, ‘Required’, or ‘Required only with Non-LDAP logins’
If the settings are set to Optional, the user may setup Two-Factor Authentication under the File menu. Once configured, the 2FA will be required for the Client, Map, and Dashboard.
Below are images of the user setup, first from the Client and then from the web accessed Map or Dashboard. The user may use a QR reader or the ‘Copy Secret’ button in the authenticator app of their or the organization's choice.
If a user needs to reset their authentication method or would like to disable it after optionally setting it up, an Administrator for the CAD will have to be contacted to reset it in the user’s profile.
